017Old Guitar
posted by Daniel on April 22nd, 2008
Rested in one corner of my chamber,
None a whisper of its being,
Dust from yesteryears poor thing had gather
From lack of care and cleaning.
A virgin white cloth I brought in my hand
My instrument to polish
This haggard old guitar of unknown brand,
Which once I had so cherish.
Its tarnished strings which made sweet melodies
Some distant years ago,
Were strummed by many friends and families
As they come and go.
Faded colors of its hollow body
Was once of dreamy brown,
Touched by countless and embraced by many,
By those in love with sound.
Its fretboard worn out by the hands that played
Songs of cheers and merry,
But so were tunes of deplore which had weighed
On this guitar heavily.
Down its slender neck I ran my fingers
Where scores of chords found shape,
The notes it felt could write love letters
With words that defy age.
If only it’s not broken…

April 22nd, 2008 at 5:55 pmOnce a Godin my dad did give me,
It was my favorite, too,
But an idiot borrowed it you see,
And he snapped the neck clear in two.
He was standing under a fan,
A rockstar in pretense,
He then raised the guitar, the thoughtless man,
Now Godin is past tense.

An action must be taken,
Against that brainless wrecker,
Beat his head to pulp and
Throw it into a blender.

April 26th, 2008 at 11:17 amI too know the feeling,
Of guitars with unfortunate endings,
An “uncle” that keeps borrowing,
When it breaks he is far from mending.
It got to point I boiled
Money was lost to mend what’s coiled.
The decision to leave it as “spoiled”,
Led to his borrowing acts foiled.
